We are a free summer camp in Hale County, Alabama supported by the local community and Episcopal churches of Alabama.
Sawyerville Day Camp partnered with Project Horseshoe Farm and the Literacy Council of Central Alabama to launch a new program in order to help the children of Greensboro and Hale County develop reading and writing skills and combat summer learning loss. Perhaps even more importantly, we wanted to instill, in a small way, a love of writing and reading in the campers. The program, which is called the Yellowhammer Literacy Project, took place at Greensboro Elementary School from 3:30-5:00pm each day. We had 54 participants this year! The Design Team looks forward to announcing plans for 2015 soon.
